Garnik Simonian was born in Tehran, Iran on November 15, 1922 to Aslan and Helen Simonian.  In 1950 he married Maro Melcomian Simonian. They had two children and consequently the family immigrated to United States in 1967 for a better life.

Garnik is survived by his wife Maro, his daughter Yasmen and son Simone. He loved his nieces Melanie Melcomian Mancini (John), Shelley Melcomian Zimmer (Marcus) and Jennifer Melcomian and their family. He had many friends and family who called him uncle and grandfather.

After retiring from the career in dentistry, Garnik found his passion in culinary arts. One could find him in the kitchen cooking gourmet dishes and pastries with ingredients he grew in the garden. He took great pleasure in entertaining family and friends.  He would engage strangers in humorous and pleasant conversations. He was a great dancer, loved world and classical music, particularly piano compositions. He enjoyed long walks to the store and stopping on the way at the consignments shops looking for treasures that brought him joy.

He dabbled in watercolor and organic gardening. Garnik was the happiest when he was surrounded by family and friends talking recipes, stories that connected him to his youth and to the old country. Garnik passed away peacefully on July 27, 2018. He was much loved and will be remembered for his charming smile, kindness and generosity.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society in Garnik’s name.
