Robert (Bob) Walter Knox, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away March 15, 2018 in Salt Lake City, Utah at the age of 81. He was born November 23, 1936 to Walter and Cornella Knox in “God’s country” a.k.a. Yuma, Arizona. On December 22, 1960 Bob married his forever partner Shirley Ann Morgan and together they shared 57 years of life’s joy and adventures.
Bob was a highly respected teacher and coworker at Evergreen Jr. High where he taught for 32 years. Although teaching was his vocation, golf was certainly his avocation. He was an avid golfer and though he claimed to be merely “okay” at the game he had a 12 handicap and several hole-in-ones to his credit.
Bob had a great love for God and actively shared his talents at both Wasatch Presbyterian and Mount Olympus Presbyterian Church by singing in the choir, helping with VBS and supporting the various missions. Bob was a wonderful and loving family man who enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was fairly competitive at bridge, cribbage and any number of games from charades to horseshoes. He also enjoyed a daily dose of Sodoku. Never one to shy away from the spotlight, Bob enjoyed performing in a variety of choirs and his booming bass voice not only rattled rafters all the way from Carnegie Hall and cathedrals across Europe but also harmonized with his guitar in the Rocky Mountains at the family’s cabin in Creede, Colorado.
Bob is survived by his wife Shirley, their three daughters Shirlene Crain, Kris Hauser (Mike) and Machaelle Shetler (Jesse), 6 grandchildren: J.C, Stephen and Katrina Crain, Morgan and Max Shetler and Ben Hauser and his 3 great grandchildren: Sophia, Sebastian and Sterling Crain.
His parents Walter and Cornella and sister Donna Gay Studer preceded him in death.
In lieu of flowers the family invites those wishing to donate to give to the Bob Knox memorial at Mt. Olympus Presbyterian Church. A Celebration of Life service will be held Tuesday March 20, 2018 at 10:00 am at Mt Olympus Presbyterian Church. (3280 E 3900 S) The Rev. Phillip Hughes presiding.
